PM Vishwakarma Yojana 2024: In a bid to empower and uplift the traditional artisans and craftspeople of the Indian economy, the government has introduced the ‘PM Vishwakarma Yojana 2024.’ Often referred to as ‘Vishwakarmas,’ these skilled individuals play a crucial role in various sectors such as blacksmithing, goldsmithing, pottery, carpentry, and sculpting.

Typically self-employed and part of the informal sector, they pass down their skills through generations using a traditional guru-shishya training model. The PM Vishwakarma Yojana 2024, fully funded by the Government of India with an initial outlay of Rs 13,000 crore, aims to enhance the quality and global reach of their products and services.

PM Vishwakarma Yojana 2024

Under the joint implementation of the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME), the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), and the Department of Financial Services (DFS), the ‘PM Vishwakarma’ initiative seeks to provide comprehensive support to these artisans, fostering a qualitative shift in their trades and improving their socio-economic status.

The scheme is set to be implemented over an initial five-year period until 2027-28, with MoMSME serving as the nodal ministry for its coordination and execution.
